All children and young people have the right to participate in their chosen sport in a safe and positive environment. Swim Wales have a responsibility to ensure that there is appropriate support for volunteers and staff, including practical guidance to assist them to safeguard children and young people in an aquatic environment.

Welshpool Sharks Swimming Club have adopted SWCSP and we are required to comply with the policy and have a proactive approach to embed good practises which is supportive of a great club or organisation with clearly defined acceptable behaviours.

The responsibility to safeguard children does not rest with any one person, but instead belongs to everyone who plays a part in delivering our sporting activities

Everyone including participants, volunteers, paid staff and parents should take responsibility to report all concerns to the club’s Welfare Officer.  Remember: it is not your responsibility to decide whether or not a child is at risk, but it is your responsibility to act if you have concerns.

“No action” is not an option.

If you are a parent and have any specific queries or wish to discuss a concern, please contact your club’s Welfare Officer.

    Lindsay Sweetman Email: welfare.welshpoolsharks@gmail,com

Parents are encouraged to read SWCSP. As a parent, you are responsible in ensuring your children are safe when they are placed in the care of a swimming club. Familiarising yourself with the policy will help you understand the duty of care a club has. It will also help you be aware of the policies and procedures your club will adhere to when a concern is raised.

If a child is at risk you have a responsibility to contact the Children’s Services or the Police

Of course, we hope you never need to use these services and that your child enjoys his or her membership in their chosen Aquatic.
